MAN, GENERAL

1 - Afterthought

Dear Lord we pray thee come and dwell with us tonight,
For we have lost a loved one, whose future was so bright.
And though he is not with us and lots of tears we'll shed,
He made his home with you,
Lord, and that is nothing to be dread.
So take our brother, keep him in your care.
For we know he is always safe there!

2 - His Journey's Just Begun

Don't think of him as gone away..
His journey's just begun;
Life holds so many facets... this earth is only one.
Just think of him as resting, from the sorrows and the tears.
In a place of warmth and comfort where there are no days and years.
Think how he must be wishing that we could know today,
How nothing but our sadness can really pass away.
And think of him as living in the hearts of those he touched...
For nothing loved is ever lost....
And he was loved so much.

3 - A Successful Man

A Man is a success who has lived well, laughed often and loved much;
Who has gained the respect of the intelligent and the love of little children.
Who has filled his niche and accomplished his task,
Who leaves the world better than he found it.
Whether by an improved father, a perfect poem, or a rescued soul;
Who never lacked appreciation of earth's beauty or failed to express it.
Who looked for the best in others and gave the best he had.

4 - When All Is Done

When all is done, and my last word is said
And ye who loved me murmur,
"He is dead" Let no one weep,
For fear I should know and sorrow too.
That you should sorrow so
When all is done, say not my day is over
And that through night
I seek a dimmer shore;
Say rather that my morn has just begun-
I greet the dawn and not the setting sun
When all is done.
~Paul Lawrence Dunbar

FATHER

5 - Daddy

Memories of our Daddy are treasurers no one can steal.
Death is a heartache no man can heal.
A million times we will miss him, a million times we will cry.
If love alone could have kept him, our Daddy never would have died.
The golden gates stood open. God saw he needed rest.
God's garden must be beautiful, for He truly took the best.

6 - Death Opens The Door To Life Evermore

We live a short while on earth below reluctant to die for we do not know just what "dark death" is all about. And so we view it with fear and doubt, not certain of what is around the bend. We look on death as the final end, to all that made us a mortal being. And yet there lies just beyond our seeing a beautiful life so full and complete that we should leave with hurrying feet to walk with God by sacred streams amid beauty and peace beyond our dreams. For all who believe in the Risen Lord have been assured of this reward and death for them is just "graduation" to a higher realm of wide elevation. For life on earth is a transient affair just a few brief years in which to prepare for a life that is free from pain and tears where time is not continued by girls and tears. For earth proved worthy to dwell in the land of new birth. So death is not sad it's time for elation a joyous transition, the soul's SAFE and FREE to live with GOD through ETERNITY!

7 - Everybody Needs a Father

Someone to make you laugh when you are blue,
Someone to hold your hand and say it's alright.
Someone to fix you a cup of coffee or tea, when you are feeling down,
Someone to put a bandaid on your wound.
Someone to stay up with you all night when you have a fever or pain,
Someone to walk with you when you need some company on a journey.
Someone to make something when there is nothing,
Someone to fix a cold drink when you are thirsty.
Someone to go the distance,
Someone to call Father and know he'll understand.

8 - Father

Not every successful man is a good father.
But every good father is a successful man.

9 - Father

The loving gifts you've given me as a father have
shaped my life and made me the person I am.
Your strong sense of values, of fairness,
of right and wrong are all a part of me.
My outlook on life,
my sense of humor, my interests, my talents...
I can see you in all of them.
It makes me happy and proud to know that the qualities
in you I love and admire so much are a part of me.
You are always with me, Dad...
In my thoughts, in my heart,
in the very fabric of my life...
You are always with me.

10 - Loving Farewell

Gone is a father loved by all
His soul is now at rest.
He'll sleep in peace "his work is done."
A father's work the best.
He'll know the joy of perfect rest
In heaven up above,
Where he may dwell contentedly
Protected by God's love.
Our hearts may grieve that he must lie
Beneath the sacred sod,
And yet we know he lives in peace
Within the house of God.

11 - Our Father Was Different

He was different, he was special, unique in a thousand ways.
He was giving, he was loving and we will miss him all our days.
He knew sorrows in great measure and was stung by illness too.
But neither could defeat him; nothing could his faith subdue.
And when he heard death coming, he didn't cover in fear.
Instead he called out boldly, "My Lord I'm over here."
And so, instead of mourning as we remember him this hour,
We really should be celebrating the blooming of a flower.
Because you see, he was different, he was special, unique in a thousand ways,
And we will miss him all of our days.

12 - What Is A Father

A Father s someone to shelter and guide you,
To love you as only he can.
A father is someone who is always beside you,
To lend you the strength of his hand.
A father is someone, who gives you his best
And shares all his wisdom and skill.
In everyone's heart there's a place set apart,
That only a father can fill.

GRANDFATHER

13 - Grand Daddy

Grand Daddy you have been a true treasure
The love we have for you, we can not measure.
Somehow we know everything is going to be alright
Because Jesus will comfort us morning, noon and night
We'll remember in your words to stay off your grass
Because Grand Daddy in our hearts your words will always last.

14 - I Remember Grandfather

I will always remember the walks and trips we took together.
I will always remember the birthdays and holidays we shared
And how you taught me to always care for my family.
I remember how we sat together in church.
I thank God for blessing us with a wonderful Grandfather.
Grandfather you will always be in my heart.

15 - Poppy's Gone

We know that you have done what we all must do.
Poppy, we will really miss you.
Your smile, the love and the laughter,
that you brought so many years,
let us know now that there's no time for tears.
So Poppy rest in peace, as I know you will
For you have made the Heavenly trip,
Just over yonder hill.

WOMAN, GENERAL

16 - Silence

It is as if a silver chord,
Were suddenly grown mute
And life's song with its rhythm warred,
against a silver hue.
It is as if a silence fell,
Where bides the gamered sheaf
And voices murmuring "it is well",
Are stifled by our grief.
It is as if the gloom of night
Had hid a summer's day
And willows, sighing as their plight,
Bent low besides the way.
For she was part of all the best,
That nature loves and gives
And ever more on memory's breast.
She lies and laughs and lives.

17 - Sleep On My Queen

For the shades of night have been drawn,
T'was a good life, we shared together;
A tear will fall from time to time;
We know that death must come to all.
"God's will be done", not mine.
Now I add the final note . . .
I live with joys and sorrows we shared together,
Now the final curtain has been drawn,
Together we shall meet and renew our vows.
I've been blessed to share precious years.

MOTHER

18 - If We Could Have A Lifetime Wish

If we could have a life time wish, a dream that could come true,
We would pray to God with all our hearts for yesterday and you.
A thousand words can't bring you back, we know because we've tried.
And neither will a million tears, we know because we've cried.
You left behind our broken hearts and happy memories too.
We were blessed by God when he made us part of you.
While God saw the road was getting rough,
The hills were hard to climb,
He gently closed those loving eyes and whispered 'Peace Be Thine'.
The weary hours, the days of pain, the sleepless nights are passed.
The ever patient worn out frame has found peace and rest at last.
So you rest Mom for there's no fear for you will be forever near,
Within my heart and in our prayers for this is not the last.
We will see you in the heavens above,
Where God has promised everlasting life and love.

19 - Mother

Beloved wife and mother who spent her whole life
putting others before herself.
Sacrificing so those she loved would not go without.
She taught others what love truly means,
and she showed by example how disappointments
and setbacks could be turned into something positive.
She was a good friend who always made you feel welcomed.
Who helped you when you were in need,
and who listened when you needed someone to talk to.
Her laugh often helped wash away tears,
her smile provided much needed support.
Her words of wisdom conveyed confidence,
and her hugs ... well they were simply the best.
Today she watches over all of us and
her memory continues to enrich our lives.
We were fortunate to have known her and we'll always love her.

20 - Mother

Your job here is done.
All I can say is job well done.
I did not know how hard it was to be
a good mother, until I became one.
You made it look so easy.
You could always put us first before yourself.
You never got tired.
No task was too hard.
So, Dear Mother, please rest.
We will miss you.

21 - Mother

A mother is a guiding light
Sent to us from above.
She listens to our sorrows
And soothes them with her love.\A mother is a teacher
Whose place no one could take,
For she's the source from which,
We learn to think and navigate.
A mother is a gift from God,
From whom we learn to be
Patient, strong and loving,
Filled with integrity.

22 - A Mother

A mother is one who surrounds you with love and trust.
With whom you feel free to be all that you can be.
Knowing she will support you, cherish you in your failures
And celebrate your success.
You can tell her your wildest dreams and she will not laugh,
And she will help you make those dreams come true.

23 - A Mother's Heart Is A Special Place

A mother's heart is a special place where children have a home
that waits for them throughout the years, no matter where they roam.
A home that's filled with happiness, where peace and love abide.
A home that's good to come to with doors that open wide.
A mother's heart is a wondrous gift designed by God above.
A beautiful expression of His everlasting love.
We thank God for our mother, for her kindness, love, laughter, warmth, understanding and
for having strong faith in God.
We thank God for all the many things Mother has done
to make our home a loving, happy one.

24 - Mother Who Is A Blessing

God knew that each of us would need a warm and cheerful smile.
A hand to do those special things that make life more worthwhile.
A very faithful, loving heart that's filled with tenderness
to help us with our problems and to share each small success,
and always praying for her loved ones.
God in His generous way, blessed us with our Mother.

25 - Mother Who Is A Blessing

For the times when I fell down and you picked me up.
When I couldn't walk and you held my hand.
When my legs were much too weak,
and you picked me up and helped me stand.
I thank God for you Mother.
I thank God for the life that you gave.
I thank God for you Mother and for the baby that you saved.
Of all the things in life we sometimes do forget,
I will never forget you Mother and I thank God that we met.

26 - A Tribute to Mother

There's an emptiness in our hearts that can't be filled,
a void in our lives, our joy has been stilled.
Our precious mother has left us here alone,
but she's gone with her Father, He wanted her home.
We loved her more than words could ever express.
That's why we must let go and allow her to rest.
The light of our lives, the joy of our hearts,
has been called to a better place to make a fresh start.
We'll always realize her spirit is near.
Dear mother your love is more precious than silver and gold.
It will be here with us when the world is hard and cold.
So sleep on precious mother and take your rest,
and feel assured we love you, because you are the best.

27 - Tribute To Our Mother

God sent you to us, Mother
to be our guiding star,
shining brightly to light our way.
You nurtured and loved us unconditionally.
You taught us that Jesus is the way,
the truth and the light.
The time has come and we must say farewell.
We are happy to see you take your place in
God's Kingdom among other believers.
We will miss your beautiful smiles.
We know you are resting in Jesus.
We will meet again one day,
until then we will cherish the
precious memories you have left behind.

28 - We Remember Mother

In this family you will be best remembered for your many serious but humorous statements. We restate them often. They carry us through troubled and questioning times, without effort. They cheer our hearts. In troubled times we often laugh or take a stronger stance, when others question our behavior we tell them "I though of something my mother said". The young people in the family tend to use your statements, they understand the meanings, they laugh too. Because their hearts are cheered. Death claimed you, but we claim the memories.

GRANDMOTHER

29 - Heaven Hotel

Heaven hotel coming soon,
Who knew Grama had a room.
With sheets so satin and white,
The Lord knew this would be something
Grama would like.
But what is a laugh without a cry,
Only the Lord knows the reason why.
You mustn't tie yourself with tears,
Just be happy we had so many years.
But when you come, come alone
And I will greet you and say welcome home.

GENERAL

30 - After Glow

I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one.
I'd like to leave an afterglow of smile,
And sail bravely out to sea.
I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down,
The ways of happy times and laughing times;
And bright and sunny days in calm serenity.
I'd like to be remembered as one that passed this way,
Spreading joy, cheer and sunshine each and everyday.
I'd like the tears of those who grieve, O' weep no more.
And reflect upon happy memories I leave beyond the unseen shores.

31 - All Is Well

Death is nothing at all. I have only slipped away into the next room. I am I, and you are you. Whatever were to each other, that we still are. Call me by my old familiar name, speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference in your tone, wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me and if you want to, pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was, let it be spoken without effect, without the trace of sorrow on it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was; there is unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am waiting for you, just around the corner. All is well. Nothing is past; nothing is lost. One brief moment and all will be as it was before. How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting when we meet again!
~Henry Scott-Holland

32 - Alone With Jesus

You are not forgotten loved one,
Nor will you ever be.
As long as life and memory last,
We will remember thee.
We miss you now, our hearts are sore.
As time goes by, we'll miss you more.
Your loving smile, your gentle face,
No one can fill your vacant place.

33 - Come With Me

God saw the road was getting rough.
The hills were hard to climb.
He gently closed those loving eyes,
And whispered, "Peace be thine."
The weary hours, the days of pain,
The sleepless nights are past.
The ever patient wore out frame,
Has found sweet rest at last.

34 - Constant Companion

The Lord is my constant companion. There is no need that He cannot fulfill.
Whether His course for me points to the mountain tops
of glorious ecstasy or to the valleys of human suffering,
He is by my side, He is ever present with me,
He is close beside me when I tread the dark streets of danger
and even when I flirt with death itself, He will not leave me.
When the pain is severe, He is near to comfort.
When the burden is heavy, He is there to lean upon.
When depression darkens my soul, He touches me with eternal joy.
When I feel empty and alone, He fills the aching vacuum with His power.
My security is in His promise to be near to me always,
and in the knowledge that He will never let me go.

35 - Death is Nothing At All

I have only slipped away into the next room. I am I, and you are you. Whatever we were to each other, that we still are. Call me by my old familiar name; speak to me in the easy way you always used. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me and pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Life means all that it ever meant. There is absolutely unbroken continuity, why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere near, just around the corner. All is well.

36 - Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste
And remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender
Be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly, listen to others
Therefore be at peace with God.

37 - Do Not Weep

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush.
Of quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die!

38 - Don't

Don't spend too much time in mourning
Tears are for the sad. I left to be with Jesus
And this should make you glad.
Don't waste hours in grieving, no need to fell distress.
I'm tired of life's frustrations and had to get some rest.
Don't vex yourself with questions, or try to reason why,
life here for me has ended, it came my time to die.
Don't lose the love I gave you, fill it with care,
grow it with devotion and spread it everywhere.
Don't fret because my leaving came in such a way,
We'll have another meeting, in God's eternal day.

39 - Don't Worry About Tomorrow

I don't worry about tomorrow; I just live from day to day.
I don't borrow from its sunshine, for its skies may turn to gray.
I don't worry about the future, for I know what Jesus said.
And today He'll walk beside me, for He knows just what lies ahead.
Many things about tomorrow I don't seem to understand.
But I know Who holds tomorrow, and I know Who holds my hand.
For the comfort of my feeble soul, Hallelujah!
Jesus Christ has made this plan.

40 - Eternal Light

Those we love must someday pass
Beyond our present sight...
Must leave us and the world we know
Without their radiant light.
But we know that like a candle
Their lovely light will shine
To brighten up another place
More perfect...more divine
And in the realm of Heaven
Where they shine so warm and bright,
Our loved ones live forevermore
In God's eternal light.

41 - Everlasting Light

I am home in heaven, dear ones;
Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting light.
All the pain and grief is over,
Every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
Safely home in heaven at last.
There is work still waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand;
Do it now, while life remaineth,
You shall rest in Gods own land.
When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you home,
Oh, the rapture of that meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come.

42 - Faith In God

When grief and pain engulf you, and tear your heart in two.
You’ll find that God is standing by to always comfort you.
When clouds of gloom obscure your view, do not feel great despair.
You’ll find an inner strength to cope, if you seek God in prayer.
As sure as daytime follows night and sunshine follows rain.
The faith in God that you possess is never placed in vain.

43 - Family Reunion

My mother is awaiting, my father too,
They have gone on before me. They will see me through.
Three of my sisters, aunts, uncles, and many friends too,
are awaiting my arrival and will show me what to do.
It is hard to say good-bye when your loved one leaves
you here. But God has promised we'll meet again,
He has made that very clear.
Some great morning, when I have run my worth.
Some great morning, I know I will leave this earth.
My mother, father, sister, all to see what a great family
reunion I know that will be.
~Original Poem by Beatrice Munsey
~Re-write by Melody Ellsworth.

44 - Footprints

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonged to him, and the other to the Lord. When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life. This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it. "Lord, You said that once I decided to follow You, You'd walk with me all the way. But I noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed You most, You would leave me." The Lord replied; "My son, My precious child, I love you and would never leave you. During your times of trail and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."

45 - God's Garden

God looked around His garden and found an empty place.
He then looked down upon the earth and saw your tired face.
He put His arms around you and lifted you to rest.
God's garden must be beautiful He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering, He knew you were in pain.
He knew that you would never get well on earth again.
He saw the road was getting rough and the hills were hard to climb.
So He closed your weary eyelids and whispered, "Peace be thine."
It broke our hearts to lose you, but you didn't go alone.
For part of us went with you, the day God called you home.

46 - God Walks Beside You

When life's road seems dark and foreboding,
And the hills too steep to climb,
And you just know you're going to stumble.
In simply "a matter of time,"
Don't ever stop walking - just slow down,
And you'll find some time each day,
To enjoy the countless wonders
God has placed along the way.
If the going ever gets too tough
And you really could use a friend-
Remember - God walks beside you,
As He will till your journey's end.
Just reach out and call His name.
He'll gently take your hand.
He'll guide you and protect you,
And help you understand...
That life is never easy.
There will be joy and sorrow,
But if you learn to turn to Him,
He'll get you through each "tomorrow."

47 - The Golden Gate

Lo, the gate swings wide at my knocking
Across endless reaches I see,
Lost friends with laughter come flocking
To give a glad welcome to me.
Farewell, the maze has been threaded,
This is the ending of strife.
Say not that death should be dreaded
'Tis but the beginning of life.'

48 - He Only Takes The Best

God saw you getting tired and the cure was not to be,
So He put His arms around you and whispered, "Come to me".
With tearful eyes we watched you suffer and saw you fade away,
Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands to rest.
God broke our heart to prove to us He takes only the best.

49 - His Promise

God hath not promised skies always blue,
Flower strewn pathways, all our lives through;
Sun without rain, joy without sorrow,
Peace without pain.
But God hath promised strength for the day
Rest for the labor, light for the way, grace for the trails,
Help from above, unfailing sympathy, undying love...

50 - Hold Us Up, Lord!

Lord, We know you're always busy for You've many things to do.
But when sorrow overcomes us, well, we need to talk to You.
For we've lost someone precious and they're with You there above,
And it's someone that we needed, and it's someone that we loved.
We are feeling lost and all alone and though we do believe,
We need You, Lord to hold us up to help us while we grieve.
Please give us strength and courage Lord, to bear what we must bear.
And nudge us when our faith is weak to remind us You are there.
Give us hope for our tomorrows, tell us life will still go on.
Show us, Lord, till we're through this and we are strong once more.

51 - Home Sweet Home

Home is where the heart is,
We head that way each day.
After hustle and bustle of highways,
To arrive safely, we softly pray.
At times when home seems tiresome,
We feel we must get away.
But we hang onto that door key,
No matter come what may.
Oh, it's great to go on vacation
From place to place to roam,
When we grow tired of roaming
That key screams, "Home Sweet Home."
We look forward to a Promised Land
When life's highways we no longer roam.
To hear the Heavenly Father say,
"My child, Come in you're Home."

52 - The House By the Side of the Road

There are hermit souls that live withdrawn
In the peace of their self-content;
There are souls, like stars, that dwell apart,
In a fellowless firmament;
There are pioneer souls that blaze the paths
Where highways never ran;
But let me live by the side of the road
And be a friend to man.
Let me live in a house by the side of the road,
Where the race of men go by;
The men who are good and the men who are bad,
As good and as bad as I.
I would not sit in the scorner's seat,
Nor hurl the cynic's ban;
Let me live in a house by the side of the road
And be a friend to man.
I see from my house by the side of the road,
By the side of the highway of life,
The men who press with the ardor of hope,
The men who are faint with the strife.
But I turn not away from their smiles nor their tears
Both parts of an infinite plan;
Let me live in my house by the side of the road
And be a friend to man.
I know there are brook gladden meadows ahead
And mountains of wearlsome height.
That the road passes on through the long afternoon
And stretches away to the night;
And still I rejoice when the travelers rejoice;
And weep with the strangers that moan;
Nor live in my house by the side of the road
Like a man who dwells alone.
Let me live in my house by the side of the road
Where the race of men go by;
They are good, they are bad, they are weak,
They are strong,
Wise, foolish - so am I.
Then why should I sit in the scorner's seat
Or hurl the cynic's ban? -
Let me live in my house by the side of the road
And be a friend to man.
~Sam Walter Foss

53 - How Do You Live Your Dash

I read a lady, who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend.
She referred to the dates on her tombstone from the beginning to the end.
She noted that first came her date of birth and spoke the following date with tears,
but she said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years .
For that dash represents all the time that she spent alive on earth
And now those who loved her know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not, how much we own; the cars, the house, the cash.
What matters is how we live, love and how we spent our dash.
So think about this long and hard, "Are there things you'd like to change?"
For you never know how much time is left, that can still be rearranged.
If we could just slow down enough to consider what's true and real
and always try to understand the way other people feel.
And be less quick to anger and show appreciation more
and love the people in our lives like we've never loved before.
If we trust each other with respect and more often wear a smile,
remembering that this special dash might only last a little while.
So, when your eulogy's being read with your life's actions to rehash,
"Would you be proud of the things they say about how you spent your dash?"

54 - I Did It My Way

And now, the end is here. And so I face the final curtain.
My friend, I'll say it clear. I'll state my case, of which I'm certain.
I've lived a life that's full. I traveled each and every highway.
And more, much more than this, I did it my way.
Regrets, I've had a few. But then again, too few to mention.
I did what I had to do and saw it through without exemption.
I planned each charted course, each careful step along the byway.
And more, much more than this, I did it my way.
Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew. When I bit off more than I could chew.
But through it all, when there was doubt, I ate it up and spit it out.
I faced it all, and I stood tall, and did it my way.
I've loved, I've laughed and cried I've had my fill, my share of losing.
And now, as tears subside, I find it all so amusing.
To think, I did all that and may I say, not in a shy way,
"Oh, no, oh, no, not me, I did it my way".
For what is a man, what has he got? If not himself, then he has naught.
To say the things he truly feels and not the words of one who kneels.
The record shows how, I took the blows and did it my way! Yes, it was my way.

55 - I Do Not Go Alone

If death should summon me with out stretched hands
and whisper softly of an unknown land.
I shall not be afraid to go.
For though the path I do not know,
I take death's hand without fear.
For he who safely brought me here will also take
me safely back, and though in many things I lack;
He will not let me go alone into the valley that's unknown.
So reach out and take death's hand
and journey to the Promised Land.

56 - If

If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you; if you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, but make allowance for their doubting too; if you can wait and not be tired by waiting, or being lied about, don't deal in lies, or being hated, don't give way to hating, and yet don't look too good, nor walk too wise; If you can dream-not make dreams your master; if you can think-and not make thought you aim; If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster and treat those two impostors just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools. Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, and stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools; If you can make one heap of all your winnings and risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss, And lose, and start again at your beginnings and never breathe a word about your loss; If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew to serve your turn long after they are gone, And so hold on when there is nothing in you except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!" If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, or walk with Kings-nor lose the common touch; if you can fill the unforgiving minute with sixty seconds' worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that is in it, And which is more, you'll be a Man, my son!
~Rudyard Kipling

57 - If I Knew It Would Be the Last Time

If I knew it would be the last time that I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.
If I knew it would be the last time that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss and call you back for one more.
If I knew it would be the last time I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word, so I could play them back day after day.
If I knew it would be the last time, I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you," instead of assuming you would know I do.
If I knew it would be the last time I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more, so I can let just this one slip away.
For surely there's always tomorrow to make up for an oversight,
And we always get a second chance to make everything just right.
There will always be another day to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance to say our "Anything I can do?"
But just in case I might be wrong, and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you and I hope we never forget.
Tomorrow is not promised to anyone, young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance you get to hold your loved one tight.
So if you're waiting for tomorrow, why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes, you'll surely regret the day,
That you didn't take that extra time for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
And you were too busy to grant someone, what turned out to be their one last wish.
So hold your loved ones close today, and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them and that you'll always hold them dear
Take the time to say "I'm sorry," "Please forgive me," or "Thank you,"
And if tomorrow never comes, you'll have no regrets about today.

58 - If Love Alone Could Have Saved You

You never said I'm leaving,
You never said goodbye.
You were gone before I knew it,
And only God knew why.
A million times I needed you,
A million times I cried.
If Love alone could have saved you,
You never would have died.
In Life I loved you dearly,
In death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place,
That no one could ever fill.
It broke my heart to lose you,
But you didn't go alone.
For part of me went with you,
The day God took you home.

59 - I Left With Jesus

Sorry I had to leave in a sudden kind of way,
but my friend Jesus said he needed me today.
So I won't call or say good-bye,
Jesus, a friend of mine is waiting so I won't even try.
Don't worry about the future it's really not that long,
I know you'll be waiting,
because that's the way of a saint's home.
He told me he had a house,
larger than all the mansions on earth.
So I must go with him, in my life He comes first.
Well family, saints and friends, I've got to go.
My friend Jesus told me I can't be late,
So I must leave with him
in order to get inside the pearly gate.
Don't wait up and please don't cry,
besides you didn't hear me say good-bye!
Just remember who I'm leaving with,
He's the one that knows the way.
So don't take another kind of route and be lost,
because he's coming back for you one day.

60 - I'll Be Seeing You

I fought a good fight, I'm at rest, so don't cry.
It will be easier as time goes by.
I've done my best to live a good life,
for I knew if I did, I could be with Christ.
As my body lies here, its only a shell.
God has called me home and my job I've done well.
Now I'm happy and very content,
for the things I've done wrong, I repent.
You know and I know that it's hard on earth,
so you should not cry at death, but at birth.
I have no worries, pains or fears,
because I'm with God, so dry your tears.
I love you all and this is what I want you to do,
put God first in your life, and I'll be seeing you.

61 - I'm Free

Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free. I'm following the path God laid for me.
I took His hand when I heard Him call: I turned my back and left it all.
I could not stay another day, to laugh, to love, to work or play.
Tasks left undone must stay that way. I found that peace at the close of day.
If my parting has left a void, then fill it with remembered joy,
A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss: Ah, yes these things I, too, will miss.
Be not burdened with times of sorrow; I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow.
My life's been full, I've savored much: good friends, good times, a loved one's touch.
Perhaps my times seemed all to brief: don't lengthen it now with undue grief.
Lift up your hearts and share with me, God wanted me now, He set me free!

62 - I'm Taking My Rest

Don't weep for me, dear loved ones
For I've departed to take my rest.
I know that you loved me dearly,
But my Father loved me best.
He was taken me from life's sufferings,
To a place where I'll have no more pain.
And has given me hope that in the rapture
I'll unite with each one of you again.
Be strong and live for Jesus.
Take heed in the words that you hear.
Live holy and love one another.
Don't sorrow at my home going.
For the Father knows what is best.
For I've finished my earthly assignment.
Now I'm Taking My Rest.

63 - I'm With You Always

Do not weep too much for me. For I am not really gone!
Its just the earthly me that died.. My spirit lives on.
Now, you know that I'm with God, and God is everywhere!
As free as air, my spirit soars; I can go anywhere!
Just look for me down memory lane and hold my love in your heart.
You may find me int he garden, among the flowers or beneath the trees
And you may hear me whisper in the sighing of the breeze.
You'll find me in the morning light or the gently falling rain.
Watch for me along your way and I will ease your pain.
And when the night’s upon you, just say a little prayer.
As you drift off to dreamland, I may even meet you there.
So keep in mind, my loved one, I'm not very far away.
As long as you remember me, I am with you everyday.

64 - I Needed The Quiet

I needed the quiet so He drew me aside,
Into the shadows where we could confide;
Away from the bustle where all the day long,
I hurried and worried when active and strong.
I needed the quiet tho at first I rebelled,
But gently, so gently, my cross He upheld;
And whispered so sweetly of spiritual things,
Tho weakened in body, my spirit took wings.
To heights never dreamed of when active and gay,
He loved me so greatly He drew me away;
I needed the quiet, no prison my bed,
But a beautiful valley of blessing instead;
A place to grow richer in Jesus to hide,
I needed the quiet so He drew me aside.

65 - I Slipped Away

I slipped away, the other day,
But before I did, I stopped to pray.
I asked the Lord to comfort you,
And see you all safely through.
I asked the Lord to take your hand,
And fit you lovingly in His plan.
I asked the Lord to wipe all your tears away,
And give you grace for today.
I asked for my family to be strong.
I pray for them all as I've always done.
That God would give them grace
And guide them safely through.
So look up, my friends, as you bid me "So Long",
I finally made it to my brand new home.
I'm not in pain, though I never was you see.
But this time God came and just set my spirit free.
The Angels were kind, as they took my hand.
And I following closely to this blessed Promise Land.
It's true, my dear family and kin,
Heaven is so beautiful and free of sin.

66 - It Is Well With My Soul

When peace, like a river, attendeth my way
When sorrow like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say
It is well, it is well with my soul.

67 - I've Only Moved Away

When my life on earth is over and my body is still,
Do not grieve because I left you; just remember it was God's will.
When God has called and I've answered, don't weep for I'll be at rest.
Only ask yourself this question...Am I ready to meet him there?
There is no separation in heaven; everything is so bright and fair.
When you pass to view my body remember it's just a house of clay.
Jesus has built for me a mansion and I've only moved away.

68 - I Wanted You to Know

I was sitting here in Heaven and having a wonderful day,
I started thinking about you and all the things I didn't get a chance to say.
I don't want you to worry about me and please don't shed any tears,
Because I will wait for you in Heaven, if it takes a hundred years.
Everything I had on earth I have in Heaven too!
My first day here my body became brand new.
It is really pretty here and I love my new home,
Although your heart is broken because my body is gone.
My love will always be there as you go along the way,
Just take a peek inside your heart there is where I'll stay.
Know that I loved my family and all my friends too
My thoughts will be with each of you, your whole life through.
Of quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.

69 - I Wish

If tears could build a stairway,
and memories were a lane.
I would walk right up to Heaven
And bring you back again.
No farewell words were spoken,
No time to say "Goodbye".
You were gone before I knew it,
And only God knows why.
My heart still aches with sadness,
And secret tears will flow.
What it meant to love you -
No one can ever know.
But now I know you want us
to mourn for you no more;
To remember all the happy times
Life still has in store.
Since you'll never be forgotten,
I pledge to you today,
A hollowed place within my heart
Is where you'll always stay.

70 - Lasting Love

How blessed is the tie that binds
our hearts in lasting love.
The comradeship of kindred minds
is like to that above.
So when at last we have to part
in sorrow and in pain
We know we still are joined in heart,
until we meet again.

71 - Marching Home

When I go marching home, please don't grieve for me.
I'll be in a better place, full of God's serenity.
My woes and cares shall be released, my spirit freed to roam.
I'll find the Lord's exalted peace when I go marching home.

72 - May I Go

May I go now? Don't you think the time is right?
May I say good-bye to pain filled days, and endless nights.
I've lived my life and done my best, an example I tried to be.
So can I take this step beyond, and set my spirit free?
I didn't want to go at first, I fought with all my might!
But something seems to draw me now,
to a warm and loving light.
I want to go! I really do! It's difficult to stay,
But I will try as best I can, to live just one more day
To give you time to care for me and share your love and fears.
I know you're sad and are afraid because I see you tears.
I will not be far, I promise that and hope you'll always know,
That my spirit will be close to you where ever you may go.
Thank you for loving me, you know I loved you too.
That's why it's hard to say good-bye and end this life with you.
So hold me now, just one more time and let me hear you say,
Because you care so much for me, you'll let me go today.

73 - Meditation

Do not stand on my grave and weep,
I am not there I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the snow on the mountain's rim,
I am the laughter in children's eyes,
I am the sand at the water's edge,
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight,
I am the star that shines at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.

74 - Memories

The time of life watches over me,
Eighty seven years I live to be.
The Joy of Life I live to see,
It's suffering, it's pain and it's misery.
All of this now has ceased to be,
For the tide has come and gone for me.
Death opened the door and set me free,
Peace came to calm life's stormy sea.
With comforting arms death
Cradled me now quiet,
Now calm and restfully
I leave to you my memory.

75 - Missed

You never said you were leaving, you never said good-bye.
You were gone before we knew it, and only God knows why.
In life we loved you dearly. In death we love you still.
In our hearts, there is a place, no one could ever fill.
It hurts for us to lose you, but you didn't go alone.
For a part of us went with you, the Day God took you home.
God Is Still Right ThereIn this life we face many sorrows, sometimes we feel alone.
Sometimes burdens almost overtake us. Just remember God is on the throne.
No matter how bleak things appear, be still and know that God is near.
Though invisible He may be, He'll let you feel His presence so don't you fear.
Yes, we struggle day by day and difficulties often come our way.
Sometimes we feel we're at our wits end, praying the same prayers again and again.
But be assured this little battle you'll win for our savior, Jesus is a loyal friend.
Through faith in Christ, release your cares. In the midst of your trials know that God is still right there.

76 - Miss Me But Let Me Go

When I come to the end of the road and
the sun has set for me;
I want no rites in a gloom filled room,
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little, but not too long,
and not with your head bowed low;
Remember the love that we once shared,
Miss Me - But Let Me Go.
For this a journey we all must take,
and each must go alone.
It's all a part of the Master's Plan;
A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick at heart,
go to the friends we know.
And laugh at things we used to do.
Miss Me - But Let Me Go.

77 - My Last Request

Please don't say that I gave up, just say that I gave in.
Don't say I lost the battle, for it was God's war to lose or win.
Please don't say how good I was, but that I did my best.
Just say I tried to do what's right, to give the most I could not do less.
Please don't give me wings or halos, that's for God to do.
I want no more than I deserve, no extras, just my due.
Please don't give me flowers, or talk in harsh tones.
Don't be concerned about me now, I'm well with God. I've made it home.
Don't talk about what could have been, it's over and it's done.
Just see to all my family needs, the battle has been won.
When you draw a picture of me, don't draw me as a saint,
I've done some good, I've done some wrong, so use all your paint,
Not just the bright and light tones, use some gray and dark.
In fact, don't put me down on canvas, paint me in your heart.
Don't just remember the good times, but remember all the bad,
For life is full of many things, some happy and some sad.
But if you must do something, then I have one last request.
Forgive me for the wrongs I've done and with the love that's left
Thank God for my soul's resting, Thank God for all who loved me.
Praise God for all who loved me best.

78 - My Ship Came In

You wonder why I went away
And didn't say good-bye,
I couldn't bear to tell you
For it hurts me when you cry.
My ship came in at morning,
A beautiful sight to see.
My captain was King Jesus
And he beckoned me.
I ran across the leeway
And fell down at His feet.
He gently took me in His arms
My rest is now complete.

79 - Peace in Prayer

In every time of struggle there is peace in quiet prayer.
For the Lord is always waiting to uplift us from despair.
Does not matter, place or moment, He will always hear the prayers
that call out to him, in earnest, for His grace of love and care.
With a tender touch of mercy, He will brush away our tears and
be calm the swelling passions that engulf a heart in fears.
For He is the Master Healer of all wounds and griefs we bear and
our Comforter and Savior in the peace of quiet prayer.

80 - Prayer of Protection

The Light of God surrounds me.
The Love of God enfolds me.
The Power of God protects me.
The Presence of God watches over me.
Wherever I am, God is!
And so it is.

81 - A Precious One

A precious one from us has gone, a voice we love is stilled.
A place is vacant in our hearts and homes which never can be filled.
Our Father knows what's best for us, so why should we complain?
We always want the sunshine, but we know there must be rain.
The blow was hard, the shock severe, we never thought her death was so near.
Only those who have lost can tell the pain of parting without farewell.
WE LOVE YOU, BUT GOD LOVES YOU BEST.

82 - A Psalm From Those Who Have Died

Relatives and friends, I have left my last breath did not say "goodbye."
For my love for you is truly timeless, beyond the touch of boney death.
I left myself to your memory with love. I left my thoughts, my laughter,
my dreams, to you whom I have treasured beyond gold and precious gems.
I give you what no thief can steal, the memories of our times together:
The tender, love-filled moments, the successes we have shared.
The hard times that brought us closer together and the roads we have walked side by side.
I also leave you a solemn promise that after I am home in the bosom of God,
I will still be present, whenever and wherever you call on me.
My energy will be drawn to you by the magnet of our love.
Whenever you are in need, call me; I will come to you,
with my arms full of wisdom and light to open up your blocked paths.
To untangle your knots and to be your avenue to God.
And all I take with me as I leave is your love and
the millions of memories of all that we have shared.
So I truly enter my new life as a millionaire.
Fear not you who grieved at my departure, you whom I have loved so much,
for my roots and yours are forever intertwined.

83 - Release Me

When I am gone, release me, let me go.
I have so many things to see and do,
You must not tie yourself to me with tears.
Be happy we had so many years.
I gave you my love and you can only guess,
How much you gave me in happiness.
I thank you for the love you each have shown,
But now it's time I traveled on alone.
So grieve a while for me if you must,
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It's only for a while that we must part,
So bless the memories within your heart.

84 - Remember Me

To the living, I am gone.
To the sorrowful, I will not return.
To the happy, I am at peace.
To the faithful, I have never left.
I cannot speak, but I can listen.
I cannot be seen, but I can be heard.
So as you stand upon a shore,
Gazing at a beautiful sea "Remember me."
As you look in awe at a mighty forest,
And it's grand majesty, "Remember Me."
Remember me in your heart, your thoughts,
And your memories of the times we fought,
And the times we laughed.
For if you always think of me,
I will have never gone.

85 - Rest

Are you weary? Rest a little bit.
In some quiet corner, fold your hands and sit.
Do not let the trials that have
Grieved you all the day
Haunt this quiet corner;
Drive them all away!
Let your heart grow empty
Of every thought unkind.
That peace may hover round you,
And joy may fill your mind.
Count up all your blessings,
I'm sure they are not few,
That the dear Lord daily just bestows on you.
Soon you'll feel so rested,
Glad you stopped a bit,
In this quiet corner to fold your hands and sit.

86 - Safely Home

I am home in Heaven, dear ones; Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty in this everlasting light.
All the pain and grief is over, every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever, safely home in Heaven at last.
Did you wonder I so calmly trod the valley of the shade?
Oh! but Jesus' love illumined every dark and fearful glade.
And He came Himself to meet me in that way so hard to tread;
and with Jesus' arm to lean on, could I have one doubt or dread?
Then you must not grieve so sorely, for I love you dearly still;
try to look beyond earth's shadows, pray to trust our Father's Will.
There is work still waiting for you, so you must not idly stand;
Do it now, while life remaineth - you shall rest in Jesus' land.
When that work is all completed, He will gently call you Home;
Oh, the rapture of that meeting, Oh the joy to see you come!

87 - Serenity Prayer

God, grant me the serenity to accept
the things I cannot change.
The courage to accept the things I can
and the wisdom to know the difference.
Loving one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time,
accepting hardship as the pathway to peace,
taking as he did this sinful world as it is.
Not as I would have it.
Trusting in that he will make all things right.
If I surrender to his will. That I will be reasonably
happy in this
life and supremely happy in the next. Amen

88 - Such Love

I did not know what to do, I wanted to make things lighter for you.
I did not know what to say and wondered if things should have gone this way.
Such love the world will never know, because of your love I was freed then to go.
Because of your love, my spirit was eased and God was allowed to do as He pleased.
Yes, God gave His angels a solemn command and quickly they hurried and took me by the hand.
It seemed then in the twinkling of an eye, my spirit soared far above the sky.
What grandeur and splendor, my eyes did behold. What joy in knowing I'm not even old!
No pain or suffering are found up here, just joy and peace, and loved ones dear.
I'm skipping and running, and shouting for joy! My earthly body seemed but a toy.
For here, I'm immortal as the Word has said and never a language that speaks of the dead.
Life everlasting, so pure and sweet and great anticipation of loved ones to meet!
With such love you've stood by my side, I love you for caring, I know how you tried.
But in weeping for me as you go each day, find comfort in knowing it had to be this way.
Find comfort in knowing God cares for you, too. And His love will see you safely through.

89 - Sweet Rest At Last

While here on earth I did my best.
For those I leave behind will you stand the test?
No more sorrows will be mine. No more heartaches will I bear.
I know peace, because God is there. The weary hours, the days of pain,
The sleepless nights are passed The ever patient worn-out frame
Has found sweet rest at last.

90 - Thank You

You have always been there for me, whenever and wherever I needed you. You are an exceptional example of strength and kindness. I will always remember your gentle spirit, warm smile and kind heart. You never failed to show me how much you loved unconditionally. All that you have said and done will never be forgotten. God has definitely blessed me to have you marvelously enrich my life. I love you and will miss everything about you especially our morning discussions.

91 - A Time For Everything

"To everything there is a season and
A time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born and a time to die,
A time to plant, and a time to pluck up
That which is planted."
~Ecclesiastes 3: 1-2

92 - To My Family. . .

I can only leave love, a statement mama would say.
When I die give all that's left of me away to children and old people that are awaiting to die. If you need to cry, cry for your brothers and sisters who are walking the street beside you. When you think of me, put your arms around ANYONE and give them what you meant to give me. I will leave you something. . .
something better than words or sounds. Love dosen't die, people do.
So, when all that is left of me is love, give me away! I'll see you at home in heaven!

93 - To Those I Love and Those Who Loved Me

When I am gone, let me go. I have so many things to see and do.
You must not tie yourself to me with tears, be happy that we had so many years.
I gave you my love, you can only guess, how much you gave me in happiness.
I thank you for the love you each have shown, but now it's time I traveled on alone.
So grieve a while for me, if grieve you must, then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It's only for a while that we must part, so bless the memories within your heart.
I won't be far away, for life goes on so if you need me, call and I will come.
Though you can't see me or touch me, I'll be near.
And if you listen with your heart, you will hear,
all of my love around you soft and clear.
And them you must come this way alone,
I will greet you with a smile and open arms, and say, "Welcome Home!"

95 - Until We Meet Again

When dawn's first light turned into day,
Who knew an angel would soon call me away.
And though I didn't get the chance to say goodbye,
I leave you three things to help you get by.
I leave you COURAGE,
That you might see your heart and
Can rebuild a world without me.
I leave you FAITH,
That you might believe the spirit will survive
No matter how much we grieve.
And I leave you LOVE,
To comfort you in its healing embrace
Until we meet again in another place.

96 - When I Must Leave You

When I must leave you for awhile,
Please do not grieve and shed wild tears
And hug your sorrow to you through the years,
But start out bravely with a gallant smile;
And for my sake, and in my name
Live on and do all things the same.
Feed not your loneliness on empty days,
But fill each waking hour in useful ways,
Reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer
And I in turn will comfort you and hold you near:
And never, never be afraid to die,
For I am waiting in the sky!

97 - When Tomorrow Starts Without Me

When tomorrow starts without me, please try to understand, that Jesus came and called my name and took me by the hand. And when I walked through Heaven's gates, I felt so much at home when God looked down and smiled at me, from His golden throne. He said, "This is eternity and all I've promised you. Today your life on earth is past, and here life starts anew." "I promise no tomorrow, but today will always last, and since each day's the same, there's no longing for the past." You have been faithful, so trusting and true, though there were times you did some things you knew you shouldn't do. But you have been forgiven and now at last you're free, so won't you take my hand and share My life with me? So when tomorrow starts without me, don't think we're far apart, for every time you think of me, I'm right here in your heart.

98 - Where There is Love

Where there is love the heart is light,
Where there is love the day is bright.
Where there is love there is a song
To help when things are going wrong.
Where there is love there is a smile
To make all things seem more worthwhile,
Where there is love there's quiet peace,
A tranquil place where turmoil cease.
Love changes darkness into light
And makes the heart take "wingless flight".
Oh, blest are they who walk in love
They also walk with God above,
And when man walks with God again,
There shall be Peace On Earth for men.

99 - You're So Very Special

You've been my friend throughout my life. You've always taken a stand for me. Your love is unconditional, always given with out stretched hands. I have never been hungry. My feet were always covered. My body was always clothed. A roof was always supplied. Not once did I ever suffer. Without fear, you fought for my safety. You made me smile in the darkest hours. You healed my pain with unspeakable power. You molded my life in a dignified direction. You taught me right from wrong, to love and care with sincere affection. You and your love will never be or could compare to any other. You are so very special to me.

100 - Your Needful Hour

Often times when hardship strikes
And darkness hides the light,
It seems as if there's no way out
And no strength left to fight.
It appears as though life's
Forever lost it's color
And joy is gone forever;
And all the good and happy moments,
Life did from you sever.
But just as sure as little wings
Help a bird to fly and
Furry cats were given claws
To help them survive
And without water clouds would cease
To revive a pretty flower;
Be assured that God will help you
In your needful hour.

101 - Your Sons

As men of the family, we will stay strong for we know when God allows a burden to be placed on us; He will give us the strength to carry on. You're gone but not forgotten, never! Family love will live forever!
